Terra Restaurant in Napa Valley introduces new dining and drinking options

A Napa Valley favorite for over 20 years, Terra Restaurant has finally come of age, gotten a liquor license and is ready for a drink. To celebrate this milestone, Proprietors Lissa Doumani and Hiro Sone are transforming the north side of the restaurant into "Bar Terra” where they’ll offer cocktails and a more casual dining experience with broader culinary options to encourage spontaneity in both the customers and the chefs alike.
Guests will now be able to order their favorite drinks and experience the kind of inventive and taste-tickling cocktails that diners at Ame, Terra’s sister restaurant in San Francisco, have enjoyed for the past five years. The seasonally inspired drink menu will showcase fruit from Lissa and Hiro’s orchard as well as herbs grown at the restaurant. Classics like Lissa’s favorite, the Ramos fizz, and Hiro’s new classic the Hirotini will also be offered.
Bar Terra’s menu will feature a broad range of dishes and prices --some Terra favorites, some new creations. The menu will allow diners to mix and match a meal to suit their appetites as well as their pocket books.
The spontaneity isn’t just reserved for the food: until now dining at Terra always required advanced planning, but with reservations limited to half of Bar Terra’s seats, just dropping in for a bite will be more than welcome.
For visitors to the formal side of the restaurant, the experience will also be transformed; diners can begin their evening with a cocktail at Bar Terra before being escorted through an elegantly curtained entrance to the south dining room. The floor-to-ceiling wall of wine will provide a focal point in the historic fieldstone room, while a scattering of well-placed tables will allow for private conversation and an intimate yet relaxed dining experience.
Terra Restaurant will continue serving the cuisine that has kept diners delighted for over two decades. The weekly menu will consist of fourteen to sixteen savory dishes, plus desserts, listed in order from lighter to heavier fare, highlighting what is best in the market and from suppliers around the Bay Area, utilizing as much local and organic produce as possible as well as sustainable resources of seafood. Guests may select prix fixe menus of four courses for $66., five courses for $81., or 6 courses for $92. Or select the Omakase, our Chef’s choice tasting menu, consisting of seven or more courses. There will also be a special daily set menu of 3 courses for $57. Each menu can be enhanced with a by-the-glass wine pairing by the Sommelier.
The remodel will take place during the restaurant’s regular winter break, with Terra Restaurant opening anew on January 14, 2011, follow by opening Bar Terra on January 21, 2011

Terra Restaurant was established in 1988 by chefs Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani, alumni of the first Spago Restaurant in West Hollywood. The idiosyncratic style of cooking deliciously combines the Japanese flavors of Chef Sone’s ancestry with those mastered during his classical French and Italian training. Terra’s cuisine has garnered many awards, and has received a Michelin star every year since the organization began rating the bay area restaurants in 2007. The restaurant has received two James Beard awards: Hiro Sone was named Best Chef in California in 2003 and the restaurant was awarded for Outstanding Service in 2008. Locally Terra has been on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 list since it opened.
